Iraq sanctions are not productive
You know our position on Iraq, too. I can repeat it again. We believe that
the sanctions system is not productive. The most important thing today
is to make certain whether Iraq is engaged in preparing for the production
of means of mass destruction, to make certain that this is not happening.
And on this basis, on these grounds, to construct one's relations with
Iraq.
It is necessary to convince the Iraqi leadership to allow the appropriate
observers to monitor those facilities which are of interest in the above-mentioned
area and to move in the direction of lifting sanctions. In our view, to
endlessly continue sanctions or to modernize them, at the present stage,
will not achieve the aim which we set ourselves.
